EPISODE 5, SCENE 4
Kelly Foster sat at her desk in the Main Street real estate office listening to a conversation through the wall. It was coming from Jordan Thorne's office. Usually when she could hear his voice, it was boisterous, big. He laughed a lot. He enjoyed the game. But he wasn't laughing today. His voice was tense, defensive, scared.

"I have never missed a loan payment!" Kelly heard him shout at his caller. She knew some of Thorne's problems, those dealing with Clifftop. She knew the project was getting off to a slow messy start. There was already flop sweat on it.

But Thorne had indefatigable spirit about Clifftop, Kelly knew. She'd heard him in sales talks where he was mesmerizing. "We have the greatest location in the history of this town!" He'd crow. She'd heard him referring to Clifftop as a "monument." To himself?

Kelly's own success at swelling the hotel's timeshares had been mixed. She was certainly capable. Her honest face and manner a refreshing contrast to the naked jawboned hustle of the other brokers. Still, she'd closed only a couple of sales. There were too many contracts still unsigned and not enough people coming in.

Kelly had helped coordinate the advertising efforts on Clifftop, the promotions and info meetings in town. She'd been rocked by the locals' negativity toward the hotel. There were times she didn't want to be connected to it. She felt like the enemy. But Thorne treated her well, paid her well. He never transmitted panic to his staff. Things would improve, Kelly thought. Thorne would find the magic.
