EPISODE 5, SCENE
7 Eric sat in a booth at the Eagles bar across from Dale Hart, the man from Plush. Spread out between them on the table was Plush's new catalog of snowboards and gear. Boarders Mike LeBlanc and Randy Gaetano were featured on the cover doing monster indies. "That's where I want to be," Eric said, pointing to the cover. "No reason why you can't," Hart smiled. "You win on President's Day and we'll take it from there." Eric grinned. The dream was close. "How 'bout if I come in second or third" he asked. "Just think about winning it, "Hart told him. "The guys who make it onto catalog covers don't contemplate anything but first place. "Sure, sure," Eric nodded, feeling like a jerk. "The important thing is to get on the tour where you can build a profile," Hart continued. "And once you get onto the tour, there's a lot of stuff you need to do besides racing. Political stuff. Hanging out with the right people." Eric listened intently. This was school. "I'm gonna win it," he blurted out with attitude. Hart smiled. "Well then, we'd just as soon you win on a new Plush board. Let's go out to my truck." Eric almost shit. A new board! |
